Kathy Johnson

Diversity and Inclusion Consultant

Kathy A. Johnson works with Carlsen Resources, Inc to identify diverse talent and establish strategic alliances with organizations whose missions are focused on workforce diversity and inclusion.  She possesses extensive non-profit and corporate leadership experience and a track record of success in diversity development; building organizational infrastructure; and driving cooperative relationships with staffs, Boards of Directors, and business partners.  In 2012, she launched her own consulting practice working with non-profits and other entities on governance, development, marketing, conference and event planning, program development, strategy and other management competencies.

Johnson was instrumental in the Fall 2012 launch of Digital Diversity Network (DDN), a non-profit professional association focused on advancing diversity and inclusion within the digital and technology sectors. She currently consults with DDN in the role of COO and collaborates on development; financial management; marketing; cultivating strategic partnerships; and board of directors governance.  Johnson also leads the planning and execution of DDN conferences and events in New York, Los Angeles and Silicon Valley, including its signature “40 Under 40: Tech Diversity-Silicon Valley” recognition program and “Women of Color in Technology” initiative.

Previously, she served as President of the National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC), a professional trade organization focusing on diversity in the cable telecommunications industry.  She also possesses management experience with leading brands including, Bloomingdale’s, BET Networks and The Walt Disney Company.

A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Kathy received her Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism, cum laude, from Boston University.  She was a Consortium for Graduate Studies in Management Fellow and received her Master of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
